Anniversary of green movement

Anniversary of green movement

I’m not sure how to express my deepest feelings about this anniversary. Is it even an anniversary or it’s just another reminder of us failing beneath the hammer of dictatorship. Another bell to ring, perhaps we were not ready. But there are lessons to learn, memories to remember and bitter moments to invoke our inner selves.

Perhaps the biggest failure of green movement, now that I’m looking at it was the fact that the world watched and took no action. Because it didn’t benefit them? Or perhaps because it wasn’t right time either. I remember Obama said we condemn any act of aggression toward people who looking for their rights. But people were shouting, “Obama are you with us or with them?” Perhaps even at the time it was in best interest for many nations to remain bias during the so called revolutionary green movement that created an yet another significant part of contemporary Iranian history for post Islamic revolution. But rather a very complicated one.

Regrets were made, successes were made, losses were made but most importantly we all remember and know deep inside even tho it may have been failed but it was a very loud and clear voice toward government to hear people are not happy.

At the time, when I attended protests, when I organised videos to make many student aware, me and my friends goal was to bring everyone together, a branch will break by force of hand, but many won’t. Let alone if it has a strong rope. The issue was government quickly detained so called head of fetne (refer to an act were it goes against values of Islamic country and it’s considered a big sin) who were mousavi and karoubi. Although people still came to streets, but day by day they lost their leadership and goals. It started with “give back us stolen votes” and it went all the way to slurs made against supreme leader and etc and people saw a door to change the regime but they had no leadership. We tried to create video, inforgraphics just to spread the word amongst people that no one is solo protester in green movement. However we didn’t see what would come next, getting warnings from police and embassy did scare us. Among people Iranian government has always been infamous for their brutality against whoever stood against them. I came to understand that very late and I did overestimated their power. Green movement showed me perhaps everyone is on their own, influence from social media, what’s app and etc is not enough to change a regime. A unity is what we need and courage. That’s when I started my blog, I started it because I wanted everyone to be in the same boat, I wanted to encourage people to join us but now I do know if I made the right decision to be involved with all the arrests of bloggers and news reporters and etc. but well it’s too late to look back, green movement was a spring for other things to begin. It was just a first chapter of a long story, a chapter so bold and important that when people look back it they know they can express themselves, but they need will need to sacrifice, they will need to be brave and they will need to be ready for the worst. If we want regime to change, it won’t come cheap, it will come with many great costs and we must be prepared to pay for it. I may be away, but also I may be away days from being detained, I also prepare myself for worst to come.

However, green movement is dead, green movement was all about lost vote. It was all about revealing and waiting for regime to admit they lied, they cheated and they did the wrong! But to this very day as usual Iran always declines any involvement is such matters and they stick it to Americans and English secret forces and such things.

It sickens me when I look back! Sometimes I feel like we fight for nothing, sometimes I feel like perhaps it could have been better if people didn’t protest! But deep inside I know everyone knew what’s the truth and even today they know. We do not need another green movement, Mabey we do not need mousavi and karoubi either anymore, Iran needs it’s hero, a dark horse amongst government who is mastermind in being a step ahead of them. They have ears all over the world, in each corner that we can imagine they are not there, but they are.

The reality is everyone is tired of being in this dictatorship country, I am too, sometimes I’m ashamed and even wonder why I am Iranian. Perhaps green movement was good in a way to bring things out from deep within ourselves. It was good in that way, we realised our potential and now we have to wait for the next right moment to strike back.
