THE SONG

[/vc_column_text][mk_blockquote style=”line-style” text_size=”16″ align=”left” width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last”]A short story by me, inspired by what I have seen around myself through the years.[/mk_blockquote][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″ p_margin_bottom=”20″ width=”1/1″ el_position=”first last”]

Some said it was magical, some said dreadful, same stories, different words. I had to hear it for myself to believe in its extraordinary power. They said it changed their lives, I did not believe at first, but it seemed the world around me was slowly drifting away to a new dimension. It seemed I only remained sane among us. Our town was always a peaceful mill town in Iran, once in a while a traveller arrived, slept at inn and left with nothing to say, nothing to see. At best we see trader’s cross town to buy our Syrups and sell at other states. We worked hard only because We hoped one day this town will he filled with much anticipated joy like cities, but in our heart though, we knew it was just a wish. We chased our dreams non stop, “no matter the storm or rain nor then warmth of summer days” said the people. Roads were all muddy and slippery during raining season, and hard and harsh during summer. It Was not pleasant to walk and see the folks so we waved to one another from far. Factories surrounding the town, were only thing keeping us alive. Sometimes I wonder if I could run through the woods and discover a time machine, or perhaps a magic door to a different life. I wish I had the power to change my destiny . Weekends at dinner, gathering at homes in hide, spirits and wines were our reason to gather, we danced and screamed to forgot who we were. It seemed our purposes were just for sake of another people to live a better life. I went with the flow, i did not know what future is holding for me nor I was interested to know.

Mosque was always crowded, it cooled everyone, brought us hopes and took darkness away, but once I stood out the doorway it was all over. Sometimes I questioned myself which is hell and which is heaven. Sometimes I heard people thought of suicide, but our father kept us safe. there was not any way out. We were circling in an unending maze. Jailed within freedom. Our father told us, thou will take care of us. Till the day he arrived. The man with violin. He set up a small velvet tent right Outside the town. A red tent, “gather for the music” said the musician. Tickets were selling out quickly, within minuets sometimes I heard. After the show was over everyone seemed hypnotized. They walked as if they were programmed. I wondered what was happening. I decided to try it for myself. A rainy morning, I camped outside the tent eager for the man to call out for the tickets. I waited hours, he did not appear. Looked upon the town, it seemed quiet, distant was shrouded in clouds and air had a mystifying atmosphere to itself. I gazed at the doors of the tent wishing for a miracle to happen. Wind was getting stronger, I felt a storm was closing in as I looked over the upper head near the mountains. I had no choice, went toward the door and entered the tent. I could not believe what I saw. Everyone was gathered in the tent. Rent was lit with people holding candles. It even seemed the interior was times bigger than size of tent that I saw earlier. Everyone was quiet. At the centre, A man was sitting in middle holding a violin. His clothing was made out of rubber. His face was covered with a mask of a wolf, the eyes of wolf screamed hunger for the prey. However, what caught my attention immediately was that the strings of the violin were connected to head of a woman that was lying naked in a tub of water.

It was the most beautiful creature I ever seen in my life, yellow colour of her hair were shiner than the sun we knew. The shimmer in her eyes seemed as if I was gazing through the biggest cities I dreamt of. Her hands were swinging in the water and the sound of splashing was more beautiful than the rain I heard every day. Her smiles seemed the road I imagined I will be take on when I will leave this life. Her breast, body and shape of her legs were more beautiful than the green woods and mountain curves I imagined I would see when I will be travelling. Her skin was clear than the sky filled with clouds. I stood still and stared for a while, so did the others till the music began. The music I heard, was unlike everything I heard in my entire life. It seemed I drifted away from my location and flew through space and time. I saw the sun vanished upon me, moon came and start to bleed stars. Next, I found myself standing in a massive empty land and sky was covered with flickering stars. There I saw her face again. But she was giant, her hairs swirled around me like storms and shortly after they turned to trails of fire, as I gazed through her eyes I travelled through a black tunnel filled with pictures , pictures I dreamt for years. I saw myself with children and wife, I saw the house I dreamt, I saw the city, I saw the life I wanted. It was mesmerizing. Afterwards, I flew through nothingness, I saw different colours of lights crossing by my eyes, it seemed I was falling with an unimaginable speed toward a bed of blue water. Before I knew it, I was back at the tent.

Tent was empty and i found myself in the tub, the lady and musician were missing too, last thing i could recall, without any control i walked outside as if i was programmed to do so. now eagerly I am waiting for my next visit, I do not know meaning of hell, heaven, life or anything, i just want to go through it again and again.
